Colorific!!

This weekend was no disappointment! Adam and I spent a reasonable amount of time outside and like with everything we do, we tried to find something new and different.  Friday night, we had your typical 7th grade date.  We went to see Spiderman! As far as comic book characters go, Spiderman is not my favorite.  However, this movie did not disappoint.  I mean really...any movie with Emma Stone is guaranteed to be amazing!

Saturday, we woke up with this idea that sitting by the pool just wasn't going to keep us amused for the day.  We decided 1. we still needed to be by water because the temperature was climbing to a balmy 90+ degrees and 2. it needed to be semi-active.  Problem solved: $20/kayak rental 45 minutes south of the Twin Cities in Canon Falls.  We spent the day out on the river enjoying the peacefulness that comes with no urban noise and even better, no cell phone, ipad, tv, or electronic device - period.  We did invest in a cheap waterproof disposable camera to capture the excitement.  Yes, the old school kind that you have to twist after each picture.

Kayaking did prompt us to recall a less than hilarious commercial that became HYSTERICAL to us as we paddled down the river over "rapids".  Check it out - AMEX Kayaking Commercial.

The river moved slowly pushing us down stream into shallow areas where "rapids" aka rocks with water passing over them projected us further/faster down stream.  Only once was I beached thinking that the water was not less an inch deep and that I could pass over it.  All and all a great day - we made out with some really great pictures (despite the limited technology) and a nice tan to add our to already bronzing skin!
SUNDAY morning was the highlight of the weekend.  THE COLOR RUN!!! Don't forget to take a look at their Facebook Page.   It was a great 5k with no timer, no real macho competition like I wrote about with the warrior dash, no obstacles - just colorful fun without colorful language, very family friendly.  Again with our waterproof camera in tow, we set out with Katie and Ryan for a very EARLY run....I am NOT a morning person.

It was a very informative morning though: 1. Starbucks doesn't sell bananas anymore, at least not at their Grand Ave location in Saint Paul, 2. Adam is very annoying and difficult to tolerate without coffee, 3. I am equally annoying to him, 4. Katie and Ryan find our mutual annoyance to be quick humorous, 5. The faster you drink a strong Starbucks latte the sooner I become more friendly #loveStarbucks!!

Here are our before pictures (remember with a camera designed in 1960 - no making sure it's a good picture until after they're "developed"):

During the race, I took this sweet action shot -->
Talk about corny running pose as we stomp our way through the first color zone: YELLOW!!! It was the only shot we took while on the course that turned out - there is no action or quick shutter speed to account for the running when using a disposable camera.  After the yellow color zone, we hit the pink, orange, and blue color zones.  The blue zone really used a generous amount of color, and left quick a stain on our skin.  (The run-off water in the shower after was predominately navy blue!)

After the race, we all gathered together for the Color Festival - it's where all the participants take their packet full of corn starch-like color dust and hurl it into the air for a volcano of color to erupt in the sky.

Around us was mostly pink and orange, but the view from behind the crowd was very technicolor-ed.  Unfortunately, we didn't snap a picture in time - we were probably winding the camera from another picture.  I hope you enjoy the group shots we took --- AFTER!!!

A little washed out but the color effect is really intense!
Here are a few pictures we took back at the car - must better lighting and camera.
Look at the mug!!!

Oh and no, I have not started to gray already that'd be the blue/purple color that is staining my hair.  Turns out today I still have some tints of pink streaked through my hair....highly professional at work!  Hopefully, it'll wash out in a day or two.

As you can tell, it was a really fun weekend!! This week is going to be very busy, so Thursdays post should be pretty great too!!!

Until then, Brit
